Fall Into Supportive Practices This Season
Dear Community,
I hope this finds you well and taking care of yourselves, resting and leaning into the support of this season. Here at The Breathing Room we look to take our cues from Mother Nature in how to move forward. So as we fully embrace Fall as Mother Nature is inviting us to acknowledge growth and harvest, as well death and rebirth. And just as the trees are letting go of what they no longer need we are being asked to surrender as well. To lay down what no longer serves us, what we can’t control nor change.
In Ayurveda (the sister science of yoga known as the science of life—one of the world's oldest whole-body healing systems), the elements of Fall are Ether + Air. These qualities are associated with awareness, expansion, movement, lightness, flexibility, sensation, sensitivity, transformation… all good things, right? But if we are not grounded these qualities can leave us feeling really unsettled, unsafe, overwhelmed and scattered. ESPECIALLY, as the holiday hubbub and social calendars begin, right?
So during the Fall season our practices should be slower, more grounding, stabilizing and warming. Yin Yoga is a good practice for turning your focus inward and restoring your sense of balance. The longer held poses help prepare the body, mind and spirit for the much needed breath and meditation practices needed during this time that really anchor your feet to the ground. And Restorative Yoga postures are the art of receiving, rather than achieving. Don’t get me wrong! I love a powerful, fiery Kirby Cherry Reboot fitness class to burn off some steam. I know many of you like to get moving too. BUT, make sure you are bringing in the softer practices So be sure to book your Yin classes and some intentional Pilates movement. Join us for Alicia’s and Mary Kathryn’s workshops this month. And please... Practice saying NO to the unnecessary busy b.s. this month. You’ll be better for it.
By staying grounded and connected to the Earth through seasonal and intentional practices and self-care (I’ve included several below for you to enjoy), our best, most authentic selves shine through and we are better in action. We are better for our people
In Breath,
Alicia
