Winter Daily Practices

Below are a few simple seasonal practices you can incorporate into your daily routine this winter to help you feel a little more balanced as you move with the natural rhythms of nature.

  • It’s natural to want to hibernate in winter but try to rise and shine by 7 am

  • Brush your teeth and scrape your tongue.

  • Oil pulling is great for not only strengthening the gums and whitening teeth but also clearing plaque and toxins from the body that can accumulate during a particularly congestive time of year.

  • Clear your nose with a Neti Pot of salt and lukewarm water. Then add a few drops of nose oil to the nasal passages to moisturize, clear, and protect the nasal passages this time of year.

  • Drink warm lemon water to activate the digestive system—I also add 1/2 a lemon to 16oz of warm filtered spring mountain valley water, electrolytes, and a pinch of salt.

  • Warm your favorite oil for an all-over massage from head to toe, if you have time don’t forget your hair and scalp. Follow with a warm shower.

  • Enliven the body and mind with some vigorous, warming exercise or yoga. Head to The Breathing Room for one of our new near-infrared heated classes!

  • And don’t forget that winter’s gift is stillness and introspection so find pockets in your day for reflection or opportunities to turn inward through meditation or journaling practices.

  • Rest and hibernate. Your body may tolerate a little more nighttime sleep so plan for retiring around 10 p.m.
